Aerospace Meets Accountability: ASG Group Aligns with SAF and Circularity Initiatives

As aerospace primes double down on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and circular manufacturing, ASG Group is working behind the scenes to ensure its own materials and processes match the pace of change.

ASG Group supplies high-integrity aerospace components and coatings to global tier-ones, has launched a group-wide initiative to map its material lifecycle—from sourcing to end-of-life—while investing in new treatments that extend component longevity and reduce environmental impact.

Group HSE Manager Dean Unwin sees this as essential. “If we’re supplying into SAF-powered aircraft or ultra-efficient propulsion systems, the expectations go beyond weight and performance. There’s a growing interest in how parts are made, finished, and maintained. ASG Group is seeking to embed circular thinking into everything—from procurement to surface treatments.”

This includes exploring more sustainable chemistries in surface treatments, such as hexavalent chrome replacements, and improving wastewater treatment to reduce chemical discharge. ASG King & Fowler, the group’s Liverpool-based surface treatment specialist, recently completed a £2 million upgrade including new TSA (Tartaric Sulphuric Anodising) lines and paint booths designed to comply with REACH regulations.

“Regulatory readiness is non-negotiable, but we’ve gone further,” says Simon Weston. “By investing ahead of the curve in treatments like TSA and trivalent passivation, we’re reducing environmental harm and also future-proofing the business against tightening legislation. That creates shareholder value through resilience.”

The group is also supporting R&D collaborations, including knowledge transfer partnerships with academic institutions to explore more sustainable coatings and hybrid materials. These projects align with UK Aerospace Technology Institute priorities around clean propulsion, lightweighting, and green manufacturing.

Weston adds: “This is about positioning ASG Group as a partner in building the sustainable aerospace sector of tomorrow. And by doing that, we strengthen our long-term market relevance.”
